Proofreading is the last stage of edits to produce a clean “proof” of the manuscript that is professional and error free so that readers can be fully immersed in the story.
My edit will address American English spelling, grammar, punctuation, missing/repeated/incorrect words, typographical errors, formatting errors, naming consistency (often a thorn in the side of us SFF writers), and obvious story continuity.

Tow the line vs toe the line
Free rein vs free reign
On tender hooks vs on tenterhooks
Interest peaked vs interest piqued
Proofreading is meant to catch errors that slipped by in previous edits and revisions. There should not be extensive grammatical errors for a proofread.
My starting rate is $1.75 / page (250 words), $0.007/word
An 80,000-word novel would be $560. An 10,000-word short story would be $70.
I specialize in science fiction, fantasy, and horror for my developmental editing, but I am happy to proofread works of any genre and length.
I’ll complete my proofread in Microsoft Word (preferred) with Track Changes enabled. Cost and timescale to be agreed on in advance. Fast turnaround times can be negotiated at additional cost.
Payment in advance (negotiable). My preferred payment method is PayPal.
Note: Proofreading does not address elements of storytelling. I will focus on mechanical issues of the text only. Dev editing interrogates the story being told; line editing examines how the writing serves the story; copy editing corrects issues of grammar and sense on a sentence level; proofreading is the final dusting-off to make sure the manuscript is professional and error free.
